As I have so far only read one of the books on my list, I have taken the first twenty books minus the one I have read for the spin challenge. These include some of the lengthier and more challenging titles on my list, but I need to tackle one of the big ones soon before I lose my nerve so we will see what happens!
- Othello, William Shakespeare
- The Tempest, William Shakespeare
- War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy
- One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy
- A Suitable Boy, Vikram Seth
- Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky
- Ulysses, James Joyce
- Dubliners, James Joyce
- The Magus, John Fowles
- Gormenghast, Mervyn Peake
- The Golden Notebook, Doris Lessing
- Midnight’s Children, Salman Rushdie
- Rabbit Redux, John Updike
- Portnoy’s Complaint, Philip Roth
- Mrs Dalloway, Virginia Woolf
- To The Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf
- Women in Love, D.H.Lawrence
- Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
- Vanity Fair, William Thackeray
An update on what I have been reading over the summer is to follow soon…
Some real doorstoppers on your list! I’ve read the Shakespeare, the Tolstoy and Virginia Woolf. I think I liked Othello best of all of them. I’m also intrigued by Women in Love because I really enjoyed Sons & Lovers. Good luck with your spin pick!

Thanks, I think their size is the reason I haven’t read some of them (apart from Viginia Woolf whose novels I have started several times but never managed to finish). It’s quite nice to know that the choice about what to read next is out of my hands!

I kind of hope it is Othello, as I’ve been meaning to read it for years. If it is one of the larger ones then I will have a very busy few months!

I read War and Peace last year and loved it, so much so, that I’m thinking of reading it again soon! So nice to see Gormenghast …… I’ve been toying with reading it for years and I don’t know anyone who has. It would be nice to get some feedback about it. In any case, have a great spin!

I won’tbe reading it for this spin, but I am sure I will get round to it soon – I’m quite intrigued by that one.

I think I have escaped lightly with Anna Karenina, I can put the rest off a bit longer!

Wow some of those do look ambitious but I’m sure will be rewarding.

I am reading Anna Karenina now (not for the spin)! I had been intimidated by Tolstoy in the past, but I’m not finding it difficult at all, only long. I have the new translation by Rosamond Bartlett–what are you planning to read?

Sadly I will have to go with whatever copy my library has, or else download it on my Kindle – oh to live near a bookshop! I’m glad you are enjoying it, I can cope with long providing it is enjoyable.
